Streamlining Mental-Health

 Role of educational institutions:

I feel that the role of educational institutions and policymakers were crucial during pandemic. In this blog I would like to address the roles of above stated people.

Addressing mental issues in students :

The educational institutions must provide support to teachers and instruct teachers to take up the role of addressing mental issues among students. This may be done by the teachers in 8 ways: listen to children's concern, check how they are doing, provide children with accurate information about COVID 19, ask suggestions from students to conduct safe classrooms, watch out warning signs for child's behaviour which interferes in their habits, encourage play and sports for lively classroom, showing role models for good behaviour - be calm, honest and setting limits.

Measures taken by school leaders:

Leaders of the institutions must be supportive in providing measures for teachers well - being. This will in turn reflect on students learning process and mental health. Teachers must be given online orientation programmes by school and other educational institutions. Counselling sessions must also be provided to teachers by means of experts in that field. Financial aid for gadgets from educational institutions side will reduce the burden of the teachers. In addition schools should tie up with support agencies for preparing teaching instructional materials.

Positives of good mental health:

Good mental health can help students developing skills such as problem solving, communications and self regulation which help for education institution. The pandemic caused further shocks to the system with schools forced to shut down during the lockdown period and teachers to online teaching learning. Schools should teach conformity by encouraging young people to be a good students hardworking and law abiding citizens. The function of teachers is to help students learn by imparting knowledge to them and by setting up as per situation with students.

Conclusion:

Thus leaders of educational institutions and teachers must join hands to sort out the mental issues among students if in future the world turns to remote learning due to pandemic. This pandemic has taught education field to cope up with many problems but the everlasting impact cannot be erased from student's minds.
